High on my sewing list this winter has been to knock-off a couple of North Face jackets. I’ve been planning to sew the Denali jacket using Kwik Sew 3813 ever since the pattern came out. When searching for detailed pictures of the inside of the jacket, I came across photos of the Pseudio Moto jacket. Oh! Wow! I had to make my own Continue reading “The North Face Pseudio Biker and Denali Jacket Knock-offs”

Tour de France with the Pattern Stash
I love watching the live stages of the Tour de France each year. You get to see so much more of the tactics and scenery than with the daily highlights, plus there is no spoiler on the morning news to tell you who won and my how much. The snag is that the stages generally run from 9pm to 2am in the morning. It’s hard to stay awake, but this year I started sewing as I watched the race.
For 21 stages of the race, I’ve sewn 23 patterns from my stash! 2 jackets, 1 vest, 9 tops, 5 pants, 3 gloves, a bar and a pair of slippers Continue reading “Tour de France with the Pattern Stash”
Controlled Exposure 75 – Goretex Shell Gloves (photo heavy)
About 12 years ago I bought a fantastic yet very complicated pattern for shell gloves. And I’ve finally made them!!! It’s a mixture of relief, rapture, disbelief, adrenalin rush and blind panic all rolled into one. Don’t believe me – just check out the photo of the pattern pieces!!
The gloves are designed to be used as a weatherproof shell for your gloves. I have a pair of the mitten styles which I bought when I first started cross-country skiing. Plus, I reverse engineered a pair for DH). They are great, but I find the mittens cumbersome. The glove style of this pattern sounded perfect. Especially this part of the description – “Unlike ‘2 dimensional’ overmitts that are flat and awkward, these are sculpted to fit the hand comfortably in a slightly curved finger position”. See all those curvy pattern pieces on the left of the photo? They are the finger gussets. The three shapes in the centre of the photo form the thumb, complete with a bend. Scary, no? The glove challenge begins ….
I joined the Pattern Stash contest on PR to help me use up some of the patterns that I’ve put in the ‘gunnawundae’ bucket. I have no desire to win, just to challenge myself to use the patterns I have. Many tie in with my winter sewing plans, so that is a big bonus. Pattern hacking was ruled out ( a blessing in disguise) so I started looking at some of my lingerie and accessory patterns. Here is the short list… Continue reading “The glove challenge begins ….”
Sewing Inspiration: Winter 2017
I’ve been chasing my tail trying to decide on what to sew next. The main things I need are active-wear and everyday clothes that I won’t mind getting dirty. So many ideas, but where to start? Sound all too familiar?
So I thought I’d make a mood board of my wish list. While I was doing this, I decided to scale the inspiration photos in size based on how much I wanted/needed to make the item. It was a good way to try to come up with some sort of prioritised list. I’m mainly looking at the styles here, the colours are likely to be different. Mostly shades of grey, pink, olive and brown – depending on what is in my stash – along the lines of the colour palettes in the last board. Continue reading “Sewing Inspiration: Winter 2017”
Autumn sewing wrap-up
It’s been almost three months since my last post. Most of my spare time has been spent enjoying the great outdoors or working in the garden. I’ve been sewing a little, but not getting around to editing photos for a write-up. So its high time for a quick catch-up.
Controlled Exposure Mountain Pants
These are photos of a pair of Goretex pants that I made for DH back in 2010. The pattern is Controlled Exposure #55 – Mountain Pants. It was originally reviewed on Pattern Review. Apologies if you’ve seen this before, but I was trying to fix the photo links for someone but I’m getting an error when I try to save the changes. So I’m posting them here so they can been seen. Continue reading “Controlled Exposure Mountain Pants”
Designer inspired polos (Kwiksew 3532)
It seams that the theme of the month is stripes! I’ve been having a bit of fun creating ‘designer knock-off’ polo shirts. Here are the finished shirts… Continue reading “Designer inspired polos (Kwiksew 3532)”
Blue and orange tankini (Merckwaerdigh MIX5L)
My new tankini is finished and I love how it has turned out. The printed panel was not as easy to work with as I first thought, but I’m really happy with how the print works with this design.
The pattern is Merckwaerdigh MIX5L, view D. Which is a tankini version of the bras I made a couple of months back. The bra is wire free but still very supportive and has been very comfortable to wear. But it was really the back of the tankini pattern that sparked me into buying the pattern. Continue reading “Blue and orange tankini (Merckwaerdigh MIX5L)”
Jalie 3351 swimshorts
Lately, I’ve been getting a lot of use from a pair of swimshorts that I made a couple of years ago using the Jalie 3351 pattern. I’ve found them good to wear kayaking or for a social swim & BBQ up a the lake.
When I made the first pair, I picked the size based on my hip measurement and they were way to big. I ended up taking them in the equivalent of about 3 sizes. I also found that the pocket wasn’t all that secure. Continue reading “Jalie 3351 swimshorts”
