The glove challenge begins ….

I joined the Pattern Stash contest on PR to help me use up some of the patterns that I’ve put in the ‘gunnawundae’ bucket.  I have no desire to win, just to challenge myself to use the patterns I have.  Many tie in with my winter sewing plans, so that is a big bonus.  Pattern hacking was ruled out ( a blessing in disguise) so I started looking at some of my lingerie and accessory patterns.  Here is the short list… Continue reading “The glove challenge begins ….”

Sewing Inspiration: Winter 2017

I’ve been chasing my tail trying to decide on what to sew next. The main things I need are active-wear and everyday clothes that I won’t mind getting dirty. So many ideas, but where to start? Sound all too familiar?

So I thought I’d make a mood board of my wish list. While I was doing this, I decided to scale the inspiration photos in size based on how much I wanted/needed to make the item. It was a good way to try to come up with some sort of prioritised list.  I’m mainly looking at the styles here, the colours are likely to be different.  Mostly shades of grey, pink, olive and brown – depending on what is in my stash – along the lines of the colour palettes in the last board. Autumn sewing wrap-up

It’s been almost three months since my last post.  Most of my spare time has been spent enjoying the great outdoors or working in the garden.  I’ve been sewing a little, but not getting around to editing photos for a write-up. So its high time for a quick catch-up.

Controlled Exposure Mountain Pants

These are photos of a pair of Goretex pants that I made for DH back in 2010.  The pattern is Controlled Exposure #55 – Mountain Pants.  It was originally reviewed on Pattern Review.  Apologies if you’ve seen this before, but I was trying to fix the photo links for someone but I’m getting an error when I try to save the changes.  So I’m posting them here so they can been seen. Designer inspired polos (Kwiksew 3532)

It seams that the theme of the month is stripes!  I’ve been having a bit of fun creating ‘designer knock-off’ polo shirts.   Here are the finished shirts… Continue reading “Designer inspired polos (Kwiksew 3532)”

Blue and orange tankini (Merckwaerdigh MIX5L)

My new tankini is finished and I love how it has turned out.  The printed panel was not as easy to work with as I first thought, but I’m really happy with how the print works with this design.

The pattern is Merckwaerdigh MIX5L, view D.  Which is a tankini version of the bras I made a couple of months back.  The bra is wire free but still very supportive and has been very comfortable to wear.   But it was really the back of the tankini pattern that sparked me into buying the pattern. Jalie 3351 swimshorts

Lately, I’ve been getting a lot of use from a pair of swimshorts that I made a couple of years ago using the Jalie 3351 pattern.  I’ve found them good to wear kayaking or for a social swim & BBQ up a the lake.

When I made the first pair, I picked the size based on my hip measurement and they were way to big.  I ended up taking them in the equivalent of about 3 sizes.  I also found that the pocket wasn’t all that secure. Continue reading “Jalie 3351 swimshorts”

New swimsuit

I’ve been working on a new swimsuit using the blue & orange printed panel, originally from Jets, that I bought from The Remnant Warehouse.  I loved the colours in the print but deciding what to do with it was a real headache. Continue reading “New swimsuit”

The hut boots are finished!!!!!!

Yay! I just finished the other hut boot. It’s been a labour of love so I guess it makes a good Valentines day present.

We had a run of days last week that were over 40C and he asked me about three time when I was going to make the other boot. So I think that when the next heat wave rolls around, I’m going to make him wear them 🙂  Sound fair???? Continue reading “The hut boots are finished!!!!!!”

Gliding World Championships from my backyard

A bit of an aside from my usual sewing post.  The gliding world championships were held in the area of the last few weeks.  It has been amazing as quite often the course has them do a tight turn near us.  All I had to do was sit under the veranda to watch 100 or so gliders fly past. Tough hey?

One the last day there were a couple of gaggles forming which were interesting to watch.  A couple of the gliders also had con-trails, one was really spectacular.

Here are a few photos ( click on the image to enlarge them). Continue reading “Gliding World Championships from my backyard”
