Slow Projects: Shibori and Indigo Dyeing – Results

Following on from my previous post on the stitching and dyeing process, it’s time to take a peek and see how it turned out. Continue reading “Slow Projects: Shibori and Indigo Dyeing – Results”

Slow Projects: Shibori and Indigo Dyeing

I started getting interested in shibori when I was doing some “internet research” for an Alabama Chanin style project.  Although I love the look of AC-style garments, I couldn’t help worry about looking like I was wearing my farm clothes rather than something that had taken countless hours to create.  Country Chic in a farming community is very hard to pull off.  I kept being drawn to images of Japanese textiles using shibori or sashiko in a very controlled way.   Here are some examples  of what appealed to me. Capris – A bit of fun

Last spring, I picked up this fabric in the remnant section for a couple of some small change. It is an organic cotton from Cloud 9; lovely soft feel to it. I liked the little bit of yellow in the print and thought it would be good to pair with the yellow top.

Yellow Shirt – Drafted from scratch

A short sleeved fitted shirt with collar and stand.  Not overly remarkable in itself, but did I mention that I hand-drafted it, from my measurements?

Yay, I finally got the bodice block drafted and fitted. Like the pants block, this one also turned out to be a bit of an epic. Continue reading “Yellow Shirt – Drafted from scratch”

Forty something…

The heat wave continues, although I don’t think you can really call it a wave. It’s just continually HOT. And I think this heat will be around for most of February as well. At times like this I wish we had air-conditioning. Good weather to stay inside and sew Continue reading “Forty something…”

Happy New Year

Happy New Year! Hope it is a good one, with lots of great memories, good health and great sewing.

I surprised myself and managed to tick all but one of last years sewing resolutions ( or resewlutions). So here I go again, hoping this will keep me honest… Continue reading “Happy New Year”

Last post of 2018

Despite the heat, the last couple of days has been quite productive with two bra/pantie sets and a strapless bra.  My favourite would have to be the set made from a knit top that I rarely wear.  It’s remake is quite stunning.

Sewing in a heatwave

I think the weather forecast for the next few days says it all. Thankfully it will only last a couple more days before it cools down to the mid 30’s. The overnight temperatures really sap my energy. It is a good excuse to stay inside during the afternoons, put the fan on and sew; preferably small lacy things.

A double-weave rag-bag

Sorry about the title, but it was the easiest way to describe it. Basically it is a small tote woven using strips of an unwanted fabric. Add in a little experimenting with double-weave to weave the body of the back as a tube and you get a double-weave rag-bag! Continue reading “A double-weave rag-bag”

Simple sewing : Two knit Tees

Time for some easy sewing projects. This time it is two t-shirts. The first is from my self-drafted relaxed fit t-shirt pattern. The second is a variation on a boat-neck t-shirt from Knipmode.

Before I go any further, I’d like to say a big thank-you to those of you who voted or commented on the design for my knitting project.  The result was overwhelmingly for the V-neck with a short length.  I’ve started the armhole shaping on the back.  With a bit of luck I’ll have a finished jumper to show in the autumn. (I’m a very slow knitter). Continue reading “Simple sewing : Two knit Tees”
